Terms of Service
Effective date: July 21, 2026
These Terms of Service (the "Terms") govern your use of 1984 — Escape Room (also distributed as Escape Room: Protocol Series; the "App") and this website. The App is operated by its developer ("we", "us"). By downloading or using the App you agree to these Terms — if you do not agree, do not use the App.
1. Who may use the App
You must be at least 13 years old to use the App. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the App only with the consent of a parent or guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf.
2. License
We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and play the App on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, for your own non-commercial entertainment, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service. We and our licensors retain all rights, title, and interest in the App, including all rooms, puzzles, artwork, audio, characters, and code. Except as allowed by law, you may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, rent, reverse-engineer, or create derivative works from the App.
3. Play safely — augmented reality notice
The App overlays virtual content on your real surroundings and asks you to physically move — walk, turn, crouch, and search. You are responsible for your own safety and your environment. Before and during play:
- Clear a safe play area; keep clear of furniture, edges, stairs, windows, fragile objects, other people, and pets.
- Stay aware of your surroundings — the screen shows a game, not the floor.
- Some rooms invite you to dim your real lights. Move slowly and carefully in low light, and only dim to a level where you can still see safely.
- Take breaks, and stop if you feel dizzy or unwell. If you have a history of photosensitive seizures, consult a doctor before playing.
- Minors should play with adult supervision.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for injuries or property damage arising from your physical movement or surroundings while playing.
4. Purchases and subscriptions
The first room is free. Additional content may be unlocked by one-time purchases (individual rooms or an all-rooms unlock) or by an auto-renewing Annual Pass subscription. All purchases are processed by Apple through your App Store account; we never receive your payment details.
- One-time purchases are non-consumable: buy once, keep forever, and restore on any device signed into your Apple account using the App's "Restore Purchases" option.
- Annual Pass: unlocks every room, including new rooms released while your subscription is active. Payment is charged to your Apple account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically each year at the then-current price unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel it anytime in your device's Settings ▸ Apple ID ▸ Subscriptions. Rooms unlocked only by the pass lock again when the subscription ends.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under the App Store's policies — request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Prices are shown in the App and may change or vary by region; changes never affect content you already own.
5. Sign in with Apple
Two bonus rooms can be unlocked for free by optionally using Sign in with Apple. The sign-in requests no personal information (see the Privacy Policy) and exists solely to remember your unlocks. You are responsible for the security of your own Apple account.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to: use the App unlawfully or while doing anything that requires your attention (driving, cycling, crossing streets); attempt to gain unauthorized access to purchases or entitlements; interfere with or disrupt the App; or use the App's content commercially (including public performance or paid events) without our written permission.
7. Updates, changes, and availability
We may update the App to add, change, or retire features and rooms, fix bugs, or meet platform requirements, and updates may be required to keep playing. The App requires a compatible iPhone with ARKit support and camera permission; AR features depend on your physical environment (lighting, surfaces, space) and may not work everywhere. We may discontinue the App — if we ever discontinue paid content in a way that materially affects an active subscription, Apple's refund mechanisms apply.
8. Apple App Store terms
These Terms are between you and the App's developer only — not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the App or its content. In addition:
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App; support questions come to us at the contact below.
- If the App fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the App.
- Apple is not responsible for addressing claims relating to the App, including product liability, regulatory, or consumer-protection claims, or third-party claims that the App infringes intellectual property rights.
- You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. government embargo or designated as "terrorist supporting," and that you are not on any U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must comply with any applicable third-party terms (for example, your wireless data agreement) when using the App.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
The App is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every device or environment. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or relating to the App or these Terms. Our total liability for all claims will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us for the App in the twelve months before the claim arose, or ten U.S. dollars (US$10). Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and nothing affects statutory consumer rights you hold where you live.
11. Indemnity
You will indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the App, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
12. Termination
You may stop using the App at any time by deleting it. We may suspend or terminate your license if you materially breach these Terms. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including 2, 3, and 8–14) survive.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may revise these Terms from time to time — for example when new features ship. The current version will always be posted at this address with its effective date. If a change is material, we will highlight it in the App's release notes. Continuing to use the App after a change takes effect means you accept the revised Terms.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the developer is established, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, except where the consumer-protection law of your country of residence gives you additional mandatory rights and forums — those are unaffected.
